Seo Preá is a transdisciplinary, artistic composition from Salvador-São Paulo. We are Angela Quinto and Saulo Moreira – We experiment with expanded writing, perform friendship as an ethical-aesthetic gesture, produce books, share dreams, and attend the Terreiro Icimimó, in the city of Cachoeira, located in the Recôncavo Region of Bahia (Angela is one of the Ekedis there – Saulo because of Angela and Angela because of Saulo crossed paths in this centuries-old terrain of Xangô). Seo Preá is a political, performative contingency and an idea to postpone the end of the world.
The collective was given its name from an entity in the Jurema ritual. Seo Preá carries a knife in his belt and a drinking bottle in his hands. He is a master of Jurema. It is known that Antonio Pereira (known as Seu Preá) was born in Pernambuco and, when alive, he worked with recycling and possessed deep knowledge of the secrets of plants, garrafadas, and medications. The name of our collective delves into the poetics of ancestrality and leaves:
caiu uma folha de jurema
vei o orvalho e molhou
e depois e depois
vei o sol e secou e secou
e a jurema se abriu toda em flor
[literal translation:
a Jurema leaf fell
the dew came and got it wet
and then and then
the sun came and dried and dried it
and the Jurema opened in full bloom]
