Anna Paes (São Paulo, Brazil 1979), holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Escola Panamericana de Arte São Paulo (2008) and a degree in Social Sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (2002). She received a scholarship from the Instituto Socio Ambiental, São Paulo, through FUNDAP as part of the Indigenous Education Project in Alto Rio Negro, Amazônia (2001 to 2003) and from Fundação Museu de Tecnologia de São Paulo for monitoring artistic projects (1999). With research that investigates landscape, geology, and sedimentation, the artist has produced works whose references are visual metaphors of geometric patterns and codes found in nature, and it is through this perception, on small and large scales, that the artist makes drawings, paintings, installations, site-specific works, and photographs. The following expositions stand out: “Anatomia de uma Convivência” at Galeria Rabieh (2019), “No Dia Primeiro, no Nono Andar” at the Lamb Arts Gallery (2019), “Refluxo” at the independent space VAO (2018), “Projeto Vitrine” at the São Bento metro station in São Paulo (2015 and 2016), 11th and 15th Salão de Jataí at the Goiás Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC-GO) in 2012 and 2016, SAC 47 at the Pinacoteca Municipal de Piracicaba (2015), Arte Londrina 1 and 3 at Casa de Cultura, State University of Londrina, Paraná (2013 and 2015), “Metáforas Visuais” at the Museu Horto Florestal São Paulo (2012), and the First International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Chapingo, Mexico in 2008. She has participated in artistic residencies such as: Arapuca Arte Residência (Praia da Arapuca, Paraíba, 2021), Artfarmproject (Fazenda Sto Antonio, Amparo, 2019), Caseiro (Itatiaia National Park, 2019), Kaaysá (Praia de Boiçucanga, 2019 and 2018), and Joya:AiR (Sierra de María Los Vélez Natural Park, Spain, 2017). She was awarded first place for the Installation “Movimentos Naturais I” (15th Salão Nacional de Arte de Jataí, MAC-GO, 2016); Honorable Mention (Photographs: “Série Homocromia B.V.,” “Untitled,” and “Retaguarda,” 27th Salão de Artes Plásticas de Praia Grande, São Paulo, 2021), and the Prêmio Estímulo (Art Object: “Nuutsiu,” “Pyauara,” and “Tirrenos,” 17th Salão Ubatuba de Artes Visuais, São Paulo, 2021).
