Matteo Bergamini is a journalist who specializes in contemporary art. He has collaborated with DDN Design Diffusion News, Domus, D La Repubblica, Esquire, and other publications. He was the director in charge of exibart from 2017 to 2022. He is currently part of the editorial team at ArtsLife, and he contributes to the magazines Art-Frame, Umbigo Magazine (Portugal), and DASartes (Brazil).
He was one of the organizers of the first two editions of BienNoLo, the “Biennial of the Peripheries” in Milan (2019 and 2021); he has curated solo exhibitions for the artists Luca Gilli, Marcella Vanzo, Aldo Runfola, Dario Ghibaudo, and others. In 2023, he was guest writer at the Instituto Sacatar International Residency in Itaparica, Bahia, Brazil and co-curator of the sixth Bienal do Sertão (CCBNB, Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, Brazil).
His publications include the book of essays L’involuzione del pensiero libero (2021) and Francesca Alinovi (2019), a rational anthology dedicated to her critical writing, co-edited with Veronica Santi, both published by Postmedia Books. In 2020, Sartoria Editoriale published his book Prisa Mata: Diario Marocchino. He recently started the editorial and authorial project Tropical Studio, a first-of-its-kind column that—through the pages of Art-Frame—will bring a bit of Brazilianness to Italy, investigating the practices of young artists involved in the relationship between visual arts, nature, and geographical and social landscapes.
