Laura Bossert (1999, Stuttgart, Alemanha) é uma artista que estuda Artes Livres na HBK Braunschweig, tendo estudado com os artistas Nasan Tur e atualmente Thomas Rentmeister. A sua abordagem é conceitual, com trabalhos que vão da escultura à performance e vídeo. Reconhecendo a autonomia na arte, ela discute temas políticos e sociais que dizem respeito à sociedade, mas sempre tendo em mente a perspectiva do indivíduo, que muitas vezes tende a ser o próprio artista. Com seu trabalho, Laura Bossert pretende estimular discussões e processos de pensamento.

Laura Bossert (1999, Stuttgart, Germany) is an artist currently studying Free Arts at HBK Braunschweig, having studied with artists Nasan Tur and at present Thomas Rentmeister. Her approach is a conceptual one with works ranging from sculpture to performance and video. Recognizing the autonomy in art she discusses political and social themes that concern society yet always keep the individual’s perspective in mind which often tends to be the artists own. With her work Laura Bossert is aiming to encourage discussions and thought processes.
Construindo História/História da Construção
Construindo História/História da Construção é um projeto desenvolvido durante minha residência no Mirante Xique-Xique em Igatu, Chapada Diamantina. Um Parque Nacional no Estado da Bahia, no Nordeste do Brasil, com uma paisagem e história únicas.
Antes de ser interditada em 1994 a região passou por séculos de mineração de diamantes e ouro que transformaram a paisagem. Os mineiros construíram casas, muros, aldeias, escavaram rios e cavaram montanhas. Os vestígios dessas atividades e as ruínas ainda estão tão presentes que se tornaram parte do cenário da Chapada Diamantina. No geral, as pessoas e a natureza ainda são muito afetadas pela história da mineração.
Enquanto estava lá, experimentei as ruínas como alívio do passado, como lembretes. Então, comecei a me perguntar como funciona a lembrança. Em Igatu não há arquivos, livros ou filmes e o conhecimento é repassado contando histórias uns aos outros. Não há nada de errado nisso, mas torna a história do lugar muito frágil.
Ao construir um muro que se parece exatamente com os construídos pelos mineiros estou aproveitando essa fragilidade. Eu manipulo a história fingindo um muro antigo e enganando as pessoas para que pensem que os mineiros o criaram. Espero que as pessoas percebam meu muro como um dos históricos e que somente em um futuro distante minha autoria fique clara. Para isso, escondi uma prova em forma de pedra com meu nome, data e a informação de que fiz parte do programa de residências do Mirante Xique-Xique.

Building History
Building History is a project developed during my residency at Mirante Xique-Xique in Igatu/ Chapada Diamantina. A National Park in the state of Bahia, in the north-eastern part of Brazil, with a unique landscape and history.
Before being prohibited in 1994 the region went through centuries of diamond and gold mining which transformed the landscape. The miners built homes, wall, villages, excavates rivers and dug out mountains. The remains of those activities and the ruins are still so present that they have become part of the scenery of Chapada Diamantina. Overall, the people as well as the nature are still very much affected by the mining history.
While being there I experienced the ruins as relief of the past, sort of like reminders. So, I began asking myself how remembering works. In Igatu there are no archives, books or films and the knowledge is passed on by telling stories to one another. There is nothing wrong with that, but it makes the history of the place very fragile.
By building a wall that looks exactly like those built by the miners I am taking advantage of this fragility. I manipulate history by faking an ancient wall and tricking people into thinking that the miners created it. I hope that people will perceive my wall as one of the historical ones and that only in the far future my authorship will become clear. For that I have hidden a piece of evidence in the form of a stone with my name, date, and the information that I was a part of the residency program at Mirante Xique-Xique on it.
